Special Gifts Theatre (SGT) changed Meghan's world. Meghan was accepted as herself for the first time in her theatre career (and she started in 2013) when she began taking classes at SGT. SGT not only accepted Meghan for who she was and where she was as a student, SGT taught Meghan valuable life skills incorporated into the theatre classes. Meghan learned how to advocate for herself, to address who she is speaking to with direct eye contact, and to communicate her thoughts in a clear manner. In addition to valuable communication skills she also benefited from the choreography being developed by Occupational Therapists.
Did you know that OT's , PT's and Speech Therapists are all part of the teaching team at SGT? DId you know that classes are 6 months long and that students are only charged 1/3 of the actual cost of the program? And did you know that NO student or mentor get turned away for their inability to pay? Students living with disabilities and adults living with disabilities deserve programming that is educational and therapeutic all incorporated into the FUN theatre program that Special Gifts Theatre offers it's participants.
Help Meghan raise $5K by donating to her 5K YOUR WAY. This year Meg will have her wisdom teeth out so we'll be doing our 5K early- walking our neighborhood and talking to anyone we come across and telling them all about SGT! Each donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2500- as John and I will be matching. So if we can raise $2500 from all of you- the total fundraised will be $5K and these funds will help SGT continue to offer it's educational theatre program to all the folks here in Palatine and the other program areas that SGT covers.
